We had a giant full day planned. My parents and I got up real early for a trip back to the Lindos acropolis.
Headed up in the stairs early.
We were the 3, 4, and 5 people in
The ship carved in stone.
The stairs to the old gates.
Once the location of a Roman temple.
Restored pillars.
It was really cool to be here before anyone else had gotten in yet.
Views up from the stairs. You can see the crane on the left of the picture being used for current restoration work.
We headed back to the hotel, checked out, got Anja, Rick and Linda and headed to our hotel in Rodes. We rushed off by cab to the old Town to try not to repeat early closing destinations.
We got to the Place of the Kings of Templar at about 1 pm and were glad we had hurried as it closed at 3 pm not 6 pm like our guidebook said.
The courtyard.
Really cool mosaic tile work all over.
The palace had actually burnt down and been rebuilt.
More mosaics.
More big rooms.
I loved this mosaic, just look at the story it tells. Two naked women, a naked man running away, another man with a pitchfork in his hand and a military man. What is the story here and look at the expressions in their faces.
I liked this candle holder. We’d finished our tour and headed to the museum.
The bathing Aphrodite was was the most famous statue here.
I really liked this piece which was one of the oldest of a mother saying goodbye to her daughter.
Anja liked the beads.
She thought how little has changed when it comes to beads. We got out of here right at about 2:45 pm and they were already closing up exhibits for the night
My mom and I navigating.
Doesn’t ice cream just taste better if it was a sculpted work of art before you ate it?
We headed up through the old town narrow streets to find the entrance to the “moat” (never been filled with water). It’s really a shame Rick is so bashful.
Two dad’s headed into the “moat.”
Walking in the moat.
I thought the moat was an awesome place. It was very peaceful and relaxing.
Odd little tunnel in the moat.
We came to the end and walked the coastline back to our hotel. Off to Patmos tomorrow.
