On August 5 we departed from Boulder, headed to Mt. Rushmore, SD and Devil's Tower, WY. We made good time driving and slept at a rest area in Wyoming just outside South Dakota. The next morning Ken didn't feel very well and progressively felt worse with a cough and flu symptoms. It was really hot so being in the van was getting more uncomfortable as the day drew on. Anja found a Motel 6 to crash out at in Hot Springs, SD. It was $85 a night but well worth it. We checked in at noon and Ken slept for about 21 hours. We checked out at noon the following day and headed to Rushmore, much refreshed on August 7.
We left cell phone and wifi range for about a week or so. Ken found he could text to the blog on roaming but later discovered that we can't text more than 143 characters at a time and also can't text pictures.
